As summer rolls around we all seem to have additional house guests and we need to make them feel as if they were at a five-star resort getting “the royal treatment!” Just a little extra care can give guest a relaxing and memorable stay in your home.
For starters, we know you should make room in your guest room chest and closet for their belongings. I believe it’s also essential to have a lovely folding luggage rack (or maybe two!) and plenty of hangers in the closet! But there are a few “extras” that can really make their stay more enjoyable and memorable — and, after all, having comfortable guests makes it all the more pleasurable for you, too. Here are ten items to have on-hand that will set you apart as the “hostess with the mostess.”
#1 – Beautiful Ironed Cotton Sheets
#2 – A Lovely Water Carafe and Glasses
#3 – A Full-length Mirror
#4 – Books and Current Issues of Magazines
#5 – An Alarm Clock or a Combination Clock/Radio
#6 – A Nightlight or Small Flashlight
#7 – Bedside Reading Lamps
#8 – New, Well-Sharpened Pencils and a Nice Writing Pad
#9 – Fresh Flowers!!
#10 – Comfortable Chair for Reading and Lounging
Want to take it one step further? Add a little something extra such as lavender sachets in their drawers or under the pillows. It will give a nice hidden source of fragrance! And as always, you can’t go wrong with a box of beautifully wrapped chocolates!

Have a lovely day! ~Kathryn

I just love these tips. I try to do a few of these in my guest bedrooms. I need to spruce them up a bit soon; I have a few girlfriends coming to visit me soon. Thanks for the tips. I did not think of the clock radio and pencils and pads. I need to throw away the dated magazines for some of my latest ones. I may even put your book on the nightstand in one bedroom, instead of on my coffee table. I think one of them would enjoy looking at it as much as I do! If I get a clock radio with a CD player, I’ll share a few of my favorite CD’s with them.
Oh Lorrie, thanks for sharing your ideas! Especially the one about putting my book in your guest room! (HA!). I am certain when you make these few changes to your rooms, your guests will notice and really appreciate your attention to details!
I have those “same carafe’s-minus monogram beside all the beds!
