Last week we used A Piece of Fabric for the first step in developing a color palette for your home.   Do warm colors make you happy, or do you prefer cool colors?  Most of us have A Favorite Color, which is a perfect start for your palette.  As most of you already know, my favorite color is blue!  If there is any question about that you might want to have a look at Chestnut Cottage on my design website at www.kathryngreeleydesigns.com! If blue is your color, go for it!  But perhaps your favorite color is red or yellow. Like I said last week…

I recommend to use variations of a color in the same room.  Layering several shades of a single color-from light to dark, can create lots of visual effect.  And of course patterns in the same range of color add interest.

I love the different shades of blue in this rug in my library . Years ago, I designed this rug with New River Artisans and I have never grown tired of it! (www.newriverartisans.com )  When we live with favorite colors and colors we love, our interiors become timeless.

Consider all of the ways in which you can introduce that favorite color—paint, textiles, ceramics, artwork, and even lovely fresh flowers.

Your home’s color palette can center on your favorite color, which may be the dominant color in one room, a secondary color in other, and only an accent in another room.  A lot of blue (or your favorite color) in one room and only a bit in another…just always
