Two or three years ago, I read a magical novel, Galway Bay, by Mary Pat Kelly . Mary Pat Kelly is the author of numerous books, is a filmmaker, and has a list of award-winning PBS documentaries to her credits. Kelly was named one of the Top 100 Irish Americans by Irish America magazine.
In Galway Bay , Kelly creates a lovely mix of history, romance, and a story of triumph against odds…which is the story of the Irish in America. I was so intrigued by the author’s knowledge of nineteenth-century Ireland, the Great Famine, and the emigrant experience in America. After reading this novel, I wondered if my grandfather had these same experiences when he came to America from Ireland as a very young man. This novel is certainly a mixture of laughter and tears!
Last week while in Barnes and Noble, I spotted another large novel by Mary Pat Kelly, OF IRISH BLOOD, which turns out to be a sequel of GALWAY BAY! I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to get home and curl up by the fire and dive into another one of her historical dramas.
From Chicago, to Paris, to Ireland, this book is full of history, politics, fashion, and MUCH more! I am almost finished with this book and I will be very sad to see it finished. I highly recommend both of these books about the Irish for your “Collected Library”!
