Today, Queen Elizabeth II overtakes Queen Victoria as the UK’s longest reigning  monarch.

As you know, I am a great fan of “Quintessentially English” in all matters…

Both Victoria and Elizabeth II were young queens… Victoria became queen at 18 and was queen for 63 years and Elizabeth at age 25.

Victoria was 4 feet 11 inches and had 9 children and Elizabeth is 5 foot 4 inches and has four children. Both happily married… Victoria married Prince Albert at 21 and they were married for 20 years when he died. Elizabeth married the Duke of Edinburgh, also at age 21 and has been happily married almost 68 years!

One of the things that I most love about Queen Elizabeth II is , of course her hats! I wear hats often and I always look forward to her many interesting hats. The vintage ones…

Another thing I admire about the Queen is her affection for dogs!

    Kathryn,
What I just noticed about our beloved Queen Elizabeth from all your photos is that she has always wore a triple strand of pearls when out in the public..have always admired her brooches. Do you think the pearls are part of the Royal Crown Jewels?

  2. Diane says:

My mother was English so I grew up with a small 3×5 photo of the queen that always sat on a side table. She is gone now but I cant help but think how much she would enjoy this and how much I would enjoy her memories of the Queen and the Queen Mum, especially during the war. As an American I never fully understood her allegiance to the Queen but always appreciated and enjoyed it and am somewhat of a royal watcher myself! And, yes, my mother wore hats to any important occasion!

So glad you enjoyed this Diane! I am a loyal fan of The Queen and it warmed my heart to hear about your mother and her allegiance to the Queen!

Kathy, I enjoyed seeing a display of Queen Elizabeth’s wardrobe down through the years at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh this past summer. Childhood Easter dresses/coats for Elizabeth and Margaret were included. I am fortunate that I finally got to cross the pond! Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to you Lynn. I have had you and your mom on my mind this holiday. I made a black walnut pound cake and thought of Dot and her cake and how we LOVED coming to your house for cake and Russian tea. So glad you got to do “over the pond”. I am certain I could live over there, especially in Northern Ireland where Grandfather Colville lived! XOXO Kathy
