After many days in the chateaus and vineyards, I was ready for some antiquing! So off we went to the bustling city of Bordeaux. An antique fair had sadly concluded the day before in Bordeaux (which was most disappointing!) , however, it didn’t take long to find the antiquing district and get down to business. As we entered the antique shops area, I noticed this beautiful cathedral on the street leading to all the little shops.
Leisurely strolling the streets, I passed a little vintage clothing shop with this beautiful wedding dress in the window.
The first stop was a very small, but fine antique shop with this exquisite Murano glass chandelier hanging above!
Seeing my interest in this piece, the shop owner quickly showed me this pair of Murano glass sconces. What a vision my mind immediately had of these pieces in a client’s dining room!
Roaming the shops, I found these “Kathryn’s picks”. I had decided before I started this little jaunt that it would be a looking excursion, not a buying trip. I had not made shipping negotiations prior to this outing ,as this was mainly a wine trip, so I was completely happy just to look and envision!
SO MANY ANTIQUES AND SO LITTLE TIME IN BORDEAUX!
I will definitely return for some antique buying in Bordeaux. Oddly enough, (and this may come as a surprise to most of you!) my favorite finds were the Murano chandelier and sconces! I can see them mixed in many styles of interiors!
I must confess that I did buy a couple of small antiques in Burgundy…the start of a new collection…yes, I know, I said no more collections at Chestnut Cottage! But I couldn’t resist these lovely French crystal boxes. You may remember a blog I did on them a few years ago…
Enjoy and stay tuned for a few gardening interests that I found along my path in France!
