The Collected Library!

The Collected Library

I always find lots of interesting books to add to my collected library when I travel, and the May trip to France was no exception! One of our days in Paris, we visited the recently restored,  incredible Musee Rodin in Paris.

Before coming on this trip, my friend Annette’s book club had recently read the book, RODIN’S LOVER by Heather Webb. Having read this book prior to our trip, Annette was a great guide when we visited this museum!

This is the story of Rodin’s young lover Camille Claudel…his lover, his apprentice and his muse. This story brings to life the volatile love affair between one of the era’s greatest artists and a woman entwined in a tragic dilemma she cannot escape. As soon as we returned home, I ordered the book and polished it off in a few nights. This is a love story you will not forget. Also, a visit to this museum will long be remembered! When leaving the museum, I was drawn to the museum shop where I purchased a beautiful French book, RODIN INTIME BY Benedicte Garnier. This book is in French, but the images and illustrations are outstanding!

A third book that I highly recommend is Wine and War by Don and Petie Kladstrup

One of our wine guides recommended that we read this book on “The French, The Nazis and The Battle For France’s Greatest Treasure”. This remarkable untold story is one of France’s courageous, clever vintners who protected and rescued the country’s most treasured commodity from German plunder during World War II. Wells and I have both loved this book. It reminded me a great deal of the book and movie, Monuments Men. If you have any interest in French wine, I would recommend this for your “collected library”!
