As I shared with you earlier, I was recently asked to give a presentation that related to mind, body, and soul. I have already shared with you one of the ways that I feed my soul…CANNING! Each of us are so busy and struggling to find balance in our lives. How do we accomplish this is the question!
I must confess that I “live by the list”! I have always been extremely organized (perhaps to a fault), and I find that sticking to my list helps me accomplish all (or at least most) of what I want to get done.
However, I do have lots of things that allow me to escape the “busyness” of my life!
Over the next few weeks, I would like to share my thoughts on how my passions feed my soul and help me to find a joyful balance in my busy life! I will start with my passion for reading!
One of my favorite and most cozy spots at Chestnut Cottage is my library!
I love being surrounded by my books…of which I have many! Books bring me immense joy and reading certainly helps me escape from my “busyness”!
Recently, I have become addicted to English murder mystery writer, Elizabeth George! Several months ago, I picked up her latest book, A BANQUET OF CONSEQUENCES.
I was immediately hooked!! It was the latest in a series of the Inspector Lynley series. I have never been drawn to murder mysteries, always preferring historical novels. But once hooked on this series, I went back to the first of this series involving Detective Inspector Thomas “Tommy” Lynley, 8th Earl of Asherton and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers of the New Scotland Yard. I am currently reading installment eight!
At some point, I would love to get a group together for a book club, however, at this point my schedule and priorities don’t allow this. If you remember the Study in Pink chapter in The Collected Tabletop is about a book club luncheon…just think, a book club would provide endless entertaining opportunities!
Another way that I think we can care for ourselves is to pamper ourselves! Be that a nail appointment, a facial appointment, a massage, or just a relaxing breakfast in bed…we must feed our souls!
Another of my passions that certainly feeds my soul is what I call….PORCH SITTING! For so many years, most homes in most neighborhoods had porches. Neighbors gathered on the porch to visit and just relax. Sadly, I think we have gotten away from “porch sitting”! NOT ME…and this summer, I have indeed done my share of this relaxing endeavor. And, I have combined it with reading and with canning activities…such as bean stringing. How relaxing it is to enjoy a nice glass of wine or champagne or a gin and tonic on the porch after a long day at work.
And when we are at our lake home…there is lots of “porch sitting”!
I always try to design my projects for clients to include a venue for “porch sitting” and porch entertaining.
Stay tuned for more of my passions that feed my soul…and perhaps might feed yours!
