I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying the start of a new year! This past weekend eight inches of beautiful snow blanketed Chestnut Cottage. Oh how I love snow and the fact that it often causes us to “hibernate”. I was needing a day of reading by the fire and a nice little afternoon tea.
As I have said so many times, my library is my favorite room at Chestnut Cottage. That is particularly true on a snow day. This room is so cozy with its wormy chestnut paneling and old stone fireplace. Not to mention, that I am surrounded by my books!
Saturday afternoon I decided that a bit of tea was in order, so I pulled one of my favorite antique pieces close to the fire. I have had this little antique gate leg table for many years and it continues to make its home in the Chestnut Cottage library.
When not in use as a table by the fire, it holds books or sometimes part of my English barley twist candlestick collection.
Duncan MacDuff feels that the chair beside this table belongs to him!
I couldn’t resist using my Leighton Spray breakfast set for a bit of leftover pound cake from the Christmas Trifle and these adorable “Westie and Scottie” shortbread biscuits.
These were a Christmas gift from friends and I am not sure which I like best…the shortbread biscuits or the tin they came in!
Hope you will find time to relax by the fire, read a good book, and enjoy winter “hibernating”!
